Set a time limit for a course

Apply a time limit to a course to enforce a fixed time window for certifications and exams. This ensures learners complete the material within a strict time frame, displaying a visible countdown and locking them out automatically when time runs out.

Key features

  • Enforce a strict time limit for course completion
  • Display a clear countdown timer and warnings for learners
  • Lock out learners automatically when the time expires

You need this to succeed

  • Plan: Bigtincan Basic Learning, Bigtincan Basic Readiness, Bigtincan Elite, Bigtincan Essential, Bigtincan Readiness, Bigtincan Standard, or Bigtincan Standard Plus
  • Roles and Privileges: Learning Author, Learning Administrator, or Company Administrator

Do this step by step

  1. Click the Learning tab.
  2. Select My Courses & Curriculums from the dropdown.
  3. Hover over the course name and click the three dot button that appears on the right.
  4. Select Edit Course.
  5. On the Overview tab, scroll to Duration in the Details panel.
  6. Select the Time limit option located beneath the Estimated duration field.
  7. Enter the number of minutes learners have to complete the course.
Tip: You can enter any whole number from one up to 10,800 minutes.
  8. Click Save.
Note: You can switch freely between an estimated duration and a time limit right up until you save. Switching back removes the timer.
  9. You will see a "timed" label and icon right next to the duration metadata. This signals that it is a hard limit, not just an estimate.
