Overview
Both Modern and Legacy Questions serve the same core purpose: adding assessments, polls, and surveys to Brainshark presentations. The creation workflow is identical for both: you start by selecting Question from the Slides menu.
Key Differences
Design & Formatting: Legacy Questions were built to mirror the look of surrounding PowerPoint or Google Slides content, using custom layouts, templates, and background images. Modern Questions trade that formatting flexibility for a cleaner, more professional appearance, using background colors instead. Administrators can standardize these colors for brand consistency, or allow authors to customize them if permissions permit.
Mobile Responsiveness: Modern Questions feature a fully responsive design optimized for all devices and screen sizes: directly addressing the limitations Legacy Questions had on mobile.
Authoring Interface: When creating a Modern Question, authors select the question type from a new icon-based selector. Choosing to create a Legacy Question instead reverts the interface to the traditional dropdown menu.
Availability: Modern Questions are only available within the Modern Authoring interface.
Migrating from Legacy to Modern
Authors aren't required to abandon Legacy Questions: they can still create and update them as needed. However, Brainshark provides a one-click conversion tool to upgrade Legacy Questions to the Modern style, either individually or in bulk across an entire presentation.
