Enable IP restrictions

Enabling IP restrictions secures your Brainshark site by ensuring users can only access content from designated corporate networks or approved locations. This helps you protect sensitive company information from unauthorized outside access while maintaining flexibility for specific content folders.

Key features

  • Secure your site to the designated corporate networks
  • Prevent unauthorized access from outside locations
  • Bypass IP restrictions for specific folders when needed

You need this to succeed

  • Plan: Bigtincan Basic Content, Bigtincan Content, Bigtincan Elite, Bigtincan Essential, Bigtincan Standard, Bigtincan Standard Plus
  • Permissions: Company Administrator

Do this step by step

Configure site-wide IP restrictions:

To restrict access to your company’s Brainshark content by IP address, enter one or more valid ranges of allowed IP addresses.

  1. Click your profile and select Administration.
  2. Click Advanced Options on the left menu.
  3. Select Restricting site access.
  4. Enter the first IP address in the Begin IP range and the last IP address in the End IP range, then click Add. Enter all ranges.
  5. To prevent Company Administrators from being restricted, toggle on Ignore IP restrictions for users logging in as a Company Administrator.
  6. To prevent Authors from being restricted, toggle on Ignore IP restrictions for users logging in as an Author.
  7. When done, click Save.
  8. Once specified, users can only access Brainshark from browsers with public IP addresses within the specified range(s).

Note: Mobile devices on cellular networks use dynamic IP addresses that you can't restrict. To access restricted content, your mobile users must connect to an approved VPN or Wi-Fi network.

Note: IP restrictions don't apply to mobile offline viewing, and users can still download content for offline use.

Bypass IP restrictions for a specific folder:

  1. Click your profile and select Administration.
  2. Click Folders from the left menu and select Edit folder.
  3. Click properties next to the folder you want to update.
  4. Check the Ignore this company's IP Restrictions box.
  5. Click Submit to save your changes.

Tip: Bypassing IP restrictions on a folder is a great way to ensure mobile users on cellular networks can still access necessary content.
