Courses hold the training you deliver in Brainshark. A curriculum groups related courses into a single learning path, so learners work through them in order. This guide walks you through choosing a course type, building it, and setting the completion rules that decide when a learner is done.

Roles and privileges: Company Administrator, Learning Administrator, or Learning Author
The quick way
- Decide whether you're building a single course or a curriculum.
- Open Learning and click Create Course or Create Curriculum.
- For a course, pick a type and enter the basic details.
- Add or copy the content.
- Set completion, certificate, and timing rules.
- For a curriculum, give it a title, pick a folder, and add courses.
Do this step by step
1. Decide on a course or a curriculum
If the training is one self-contained topic, create a course. If learners need to work through several courses as a path, create a curriculum and add the courses to it. See Create a new curriculum.
A curriculum needs at least one course before you can save it, so build your courses first.
2. Start from the Learning menu
There are two ways in:
- Click Learning in the top navigation and select Create Course or Create Curriculum.
- Go to My Learning, click Create in the upper right, and select Course or Curriculum.
3. Choose your course type
The Course type list holds the default types below, plus any custom content types your company has set up in Administration. Each type suits a different kind of training:
- Brainshark course: standard course built from presentations and other content. See Create a Brainshark course.
- Coaching course: learners submit a video or audio response for review and scoring. See Create a coaching course.
- Roleplay course: learners practice a scenario against a set prompt. See Create a roleplay course.
- Checklist course: learners or managers confirm a list of tasks. See Create a checklist course.
- Course event: training tied to a scheduled session, such as a live class. See Create a course event.
The details you enter next depend on the type you chose. You’ll also choose the folder where the course is stored.
4. Add or copy the content
For a Brainshark course, choose New content to build from scratch or Copy from existing content to start from a presentation or course you already have. If you choose New content, click Edit content on the Overview tab to open Brainshark authoring. Learn how to create a Brainshark.
5. Set the course overview
The overview is what learners see first. It sets expectations for what the course covers and how long it takes. See Set the overview of a course.
6. Configure completion and certificates
Decide what counts as completion and whether learners receive a certificate. See Configure course completion and certificate settings.
7. Add timing and exam rules
Use these options when the course needs to be assessed under set conditions:
- Time limit: cap how long learners have to finish. See Set a time limit for a course.
- Exam: mark the course as an exam so it's scored and reported as one. See Designate a course as an exam.
8. Add SCORM content
If you already have training packaged as SCORM, upload it instead of rebuilding it. See Upload and manage SCORM packages.
