RolePlayAI Advanced Settings

Introduction

RolePlayAI's newest features include Advanced Settings for virtual partner behavior control. These settings enhance the realism of practice scenarios by allowing fine-tuned adjustments to how virtual partners communicate.

Advanced Settings Overview

Located directly below Communication Style selection, Advanced Settings are defaulted to OFF and will not impact the standard Communication Style behavior unless explicitly enabled. When enabled, three new controls provide granular adjustments to virtual partner behavior:

  • Natural Speech Level
  • Education Level
  • Difficulty Level

Important Note: Communication Styles work exactly as before unless Advanced Settings are enabled. This ensures existing scenarios and practice sessions remain unchanged unless users specifically choose to utilize the new controls.

Detailed Settings Breakdown

Natural Speech Level

Purpose: Controls speech pattern polish and formality

Range: Very Natural (Level 1) to Polished (Level 5)

Level Definitions:

  1. Very Natural

Impact Examples:

Very Natural:

"Yeah... um, so about the integration timeline - hang on, let me back up a second. The thing is, we tried something similar last year and, uh, ran into some issues..."

Polished:

"Regarding the integration timeline, I have several concerns based on our previous implementation experience. Let me outline them systematically."

Education Level

Purpose: Adjusts vocabulary complexity and reasoning approach

Range: High School to PhD

Level Definitions:

  1. High School
  • Use simple, everyday vocabulary
  • Basic sentence structure

Impact Examples:

High School:

"The system keeps crashing whenever I try to save my reports. Nothing I've tried is fixing it."

PhD:

"We're experiencing critical system failures during data persistence operations, particularly during concurrent save attempts. Standard remediation protocols have proven ineffective."

Difficulty Level

Purpose: Controls conversation complexity and challenge

Range: Basic to Expert

Level Definitions:

  1. Basic
  • Express communication style straightforwardly
  • Present clear, single-track thoughts

  • Require comprehensive validation
  • Display subtle behavioral shifts

Impact Examples:

Basic:

"What's included in your enterprise package? I need to know the features and price."

Expert:

"Before discussing the enterprise package, I need to understand how this solution aligns with our digital transformation strategy. What's your approach to change management during implementation? How do you handle data migration from legacy systems?"

Setting Interactions

Primary vs. Secondary Controls

  • Communication Style remains the foundation of personality
  • Advanced settings modify expression methods only when enabled
  • Settings work in combination, not opposition
  • Disabling Advanced Settings returns virtual partner to standard Communication Style behavior

Example Combinations

Scenario: Skeptical Analyst discussing new software

With Advanced Settings OFF:

Standard Skeptical Analyst behavior focused on questioning and analytical responses

With Advanced Settings ON: Natural Speech (1) + PhD Education (5) + Expert Difficulty (5)

"Um... looking at your microservices architecture... pauses I have some, uh, significant concerns about the scalability. Could you maybe explain your approach to load balancing and fault tolerance?"

Polished Speech (5) + High School Education (1) + Basic Difficulty (1)

"I'm not convinced this software will help us. Show me exactly how it works with some simple examples."

Best Practices

Setting Selection Guidelines

  • Start with Advanced Settings OFF for standard practice scenarios
  • Enable Advanced Settings when more customized behavior is needed
  • Match Education Level to target audience expertise
  • Align Natural Speech Level with industry conventions
  • Progress Difficulty Level gradually during practice

Optimal Usage

  1. Begin with Advanced Settings OFF when learning new Communication Styles
  2. Enable Advanced Settings to create more nuanced scenarios
  3. Maintain consistent settings for similar scenario types
  4. Vary combinations to practice diverse situations

Implementation Notes

  • Advanced Settings default to OFF for all new scenarios
  • Settings maintain consistency throughout sessions when enabled
  • Changes apply immediately to virtual partner responses
  • Toggling Advanced Settings OFF returns to standard Communication Style behavior
