How to Access
Cadences can be accessed by opening the notifications section of Media Manager and switching to the second tab listed in the notifications sub-menu, aptly named, “Cadences”:
Drafting a Cadence
Creating a cadence works very similarly to drafting a standalone notification, such that a standard set of information about the series of messages is required by Media Manager before you can save and begin adding notifications to your cadence:
Here is a rundown of the settings for Cadences:
Cadence Details:
Cadence Name: Enter cadence name here
Status: Active or Inactive
Start Date: Would you like this cadence to begin immediately upon activating or start on a specific date?
End Date: Would you like this cadence to end on a specific date or continue indefinitely?
Delivery Method: Which delivery methods would you like to use for sending your notifications?
Choose any/all:
- Push Notifications
- SMS
Note: Your notification will be sent to each user with one of the selected delivery methods. Your selected methods will be attempted in order: primary, then secondary, then tertiary, as indicated when a checkbox is filled.
Default Delivery Time: Set a default delivery time and preferred time zone for scheduling your notifications in this cadence. This setting can be overridden for each individual notification in the cadence.
Audience Details:
Select Audience Type:
- All New Users - All Users registered on or after the activation of the cadence will be enrolled to receive the cadence’s notifications
- Filter Users - All Users registered on or after the activation of the cadence matching the selected Region, User Roles, and Distributors settings will be enrolled to receive the cadence’s notifications
Once all required details have been entered during setup, you can advance to adding notifications to your cadence by clicking on the “Save & Add Notifications” button directly beneath the Cadence Details section.
To adjust your Cadence Details, click on the Setup button in the upper right corner to expand the settings box. Commit changes by clicking either the save button in the upper or lower right corner of the screen. Display notifications by clicking on the “(Show “#” Hidden Notifications)” button beneath the cadence details section.
User Enrollment:
Cadences will only enroll app users based on the date a user was added to the account, a segment of data available for every Modus Communicate user. A user will be added to a New User Cadence if the date they were added to the account is on or after the start date of the Cadence.
Example: I want to enroll users in the New User Cadence who registered on or after January 1, 2021, so I need to set the start date to January 1, 2020. This setting would create a segment of users that would automatically add any user whose user account was created after January 1, 2021.
Note: Cadences with a retroactive start date are not allowed. The start date must be set to on or after the date of setting the status to active.
Drafting notifications for a cadence
Notifications are organized into a collected series of messages within a cadence. When a notification is created from within a cadence it will adopt the default settings configured during set-up (Delivery time, user segment). The delivery time can be adjusted per notification.
The draft of your first notification in the cadence is created upon saving your cadence settings after completing the initial set-up. Here, you begin to see the organization of notifications into a cadence take shape. By default, the first notification created is applied to the first position in the cadence, as indicated by a “1” enclosed within a circle. Adding a new notification above or below an existing notification will adjust this number accordingly.
Designing and writing notification content:
As is the case with drafting standalone notifications, you are presented with a form for writing and designing the draft of each cadence notification, including message subject and body text. Upon completion of designing your notification, use the “Save Notification” button to commit your changes and continue on to drafting the next notification. If you make edits to a saved notification, an “unsaved changes” message will appear within the notification module and remain until you choose to revert all changes or save the notification:
Changing Notification Status
Should you want any individual notification to remain inactive upon activating the cadence, you can keep the status of the notification inactive. Changing the notification status to active will ensure the notification is will be scheduled upon activating the cadence.
Adding Delays and Reorganizing Notifications
Once you have two or more notifications added to your cadence, you can adjust the order and days between notifications. Since the delivery date of each notification is dependent on the date which a user has registered for your application, “Day 1”’s actual delivery date will differ for most of your users. What you want to consider is when in the app user’s “journey” should they begin receiving notifications, and when should subsequent notifications in the cadence be delivered.
Adding a delay before the first notification will mean that the first notification will not be delivered to a new user until “x” number of days after they register. The day within the cadence on which a user will receive any given notification is displayed in big bold letters front and center on every notification listing within a cadence. If the notifications are rearranged, the days will readjust. It is worth noting that all delays will remain unchanged in the event of the notifications being rearranged:
How can you rearrange the notifications? Easy! Click and hold on the circled number next to the notification and move it to the desired order for how you would like the notifications delivered.
