Getting Started with Stories

What are Stories?

Stories (Smart folders) are the main point of interaction in the Bigtincan Hub. They have two primary functions:

1. A Place to Keep Files Together

A Story is a type of content made up of one or more files, which can be a mixture of different media such as documents, Voice Notes or events. They act almost like folders for related files. But unlike regular folders, Stories provide a way for you to include extra information such as a description, a featured image or events, all of which provide more context for the file(s) attached. This allows anyone who views your Story to gain a rich understanding of context for the file(s) attached.

2. A Point of Interaction

As a point of interaction, Stories allow others to interact with your file(s) through comments and 'likes'. In addition to this, users can share Stories through HubShare or email.

*Note: Users can move a Story to another Channel once it's created, or make a copy of the Story so that it belongs in multiple Channels.

What can you attach to a Story?

A Story can have one file or multiple files attached. Files include:

  • Events
  • Files: Documents, presentations, spreadsheets, PDFs
  • Photos
  • Quicklinks
  • Voice Notes

*Note: Bigtincan Hub supports a wide variety of file types including files unique to your organization. Check with an administrator to see if a specific file type is supported.

Featured Story

The Featured screen is the default landing screen when using Bigtincan Hub version 5. This consists of various elements including Featured Stories.

These are Stories that users wish to draw attention to or highlight for a period of time.

A Story is set as Featured within the Story Options.

Image

In order for a Story to be Featured additional image art has to be supplied to be used to identify the Story on the Featured screen. This image should be 1000 by 540 px.

Date

A date range must be set for Featured Stories. This ensures that the Featured screen remains interesting and is not overloaded with content.

Specify a start date and expiry date. Times can be specified if required.

Metadata

Bigtincan Hub provides reporting and analytic capabilities. To ensure users get the best value from their content and its usage based on your particular requirements, metadata can be used. Users can add metadata to Stories. This is then used in the marketing and CRM dashboards.

There are two categories of metadata available.  Users can add both types to a Story. If users wish to add multiple properties just select the appropriate button, select the property and add your value.
